Special feature of 1905 film network This year is the 90th Le Mans 24 Hours Race in France. In the past 100 years, it has witnessed countless extraordinary stories and produced many outstanding drivers. This week’s excellent film "Speed Car King" sets the time in the summer of 1966, and a "crazy" racing driver took part in this legendary race.
24 heures du mans
Since 1923, every year on the second weekend of June, the Le Mans 24 Hours Endurance Race has been held as scheduled in the small town of Le Mans, 200 kilometers southwest of Paris, France. The 24 Hours of Le Mans is a great test for drivers. Only three drivers are allowed to drive in turn in each car. On the 13.5-kilometer track, the best car has a mileage of nearly 5,000 kilometers, so the race, together with the World Formula One Championship and the World Rally Championship, is called the three most famous and difficult car races in the world.
The film "King of Speeding Cars" restored the most classic counterattack battle on this track. A talented racer turned the tide by his own efforts, and he was Kim Myers.
Genius in the left, the madman in the right
In the 1960s, Ferrari occupied the Le Mans Endurance Championship for six consecutive years. In 1966, this record was broken by Ford, which had no previous racing experience, and also won the top three in the race. The man who helped Ford win the championship was Kim Myers.
Miles, like a "madman", has achieved the ultimate in motor racing. At the age of 11, he had a car accident in a racing competition, which not only broke his nose but also lost three teeth, but it didn’t make him give up his love for racing.
When he grew up, Myers became an extreme test driver, struggling hard in cars with almost no safety protection facilities all the year round. Sometimes he lost control when turning, the car ran off the track and the tires screeched under great friction, but he would drive the car back to the track again to test the extreme speed of the car.
The film "King of Speed Cars" is based on a documentary novel, in which Kim Myers said, "I would rather die on the track than get cancer." So his madness is not limited to becoming a test driver. His goal is to win the race by driving a racing car. In 1953, he bought a second-hand racing car, but was disqualified for reckless driving after the brakes failed. In the following year, he changed almost all the parts of the car with his crazy energy and won 14 consecutive victories in one fell swoop.
Screen duo
Christian Bale and Matt Damon.
The film King of Speed Cars was played by Christian Bale. After Batman, he always thought that playing a fictional character would be overdone, so he always wanted to play a role adapted from a real person.
Although Bell took a fancy to the role of Miles very early, the filming of this film was repeatedly postponed due to budget and shooting difficulty. After a lapse of six years, when the producer finally informed him that he could shoot "King of Fast Cars", Bell had just gained a fat man for his role.
In order to play Miles, Bell had to lose 60 pounds in seven months. Bell, who is nearly 50 years old, lives on apples and salads every day, and he has to learn to drive a racing car in 40 degrees.
In order to enrich the story of this film and help portray the role of Miles, Bell also needs a charming actor as a partner, and he is Matt Damon. Damon won the Best Original Screenplay Award and the Best Actor nomination at the 70th Academy Awards.
During their decades of acting career, Bell and Damon have always been close friends, but they have never cooperated once. This time, as the eldest brother, Bell found that the "crazy" racer needed an intimate partner, and Damon just finished filming. So what kind of sparks will the first cooperation between "Agent Bourne" and "Batman" collide?
